19th Century Fantasy Castle
The National Trust's Penrhyn Castle is a stunning neo-Norman castle built by famous Victorian architect Thomas Hopper. Steeped in history, it was built on the Pennant family fortune made from slaves, sugar and slate and includes a host of carefully preserved and wonderfully decorated rooms.
The magnificent estate takes in glorious views of Snowdonia and the Menai Strait and encompasses 60 acres of grounds including parkland, an exotic tree and shrub collection as well as a Victorian walled garden. As well as our Railway Museum , housing renowned engines from both Penrhyn Castle 's history and from further a field.
Something for everyone
There's plenty to do on a day-out at Penrhyn whether it's delving into the castle's rich history with our audio or digital guides or experiencing the outdoors in our beautiful gardens. Re-live the days of Victorian opulence in lavishly furnished rooms and marvel at the collection of old master paintings.
There's so much going on at Penrhyn now we're open all year round. We have seasonally themed events such as our ‘Spring Awakening', ‘Christmas at Penrhyn' and our spooky ‘Dark Happenings' season. There are lots of activities for children such as our Summer of Celebration, Wild Child and Wild in the Woods club. As well as a whole host of other events, exhibitions and festivals.
