Nant Gwrtheyrn is a magical place, a remote Victorian
Quarry village set on a 200 acre site in a secluded wooded valley
overlooking Porthdinllaen Bay on the Llyn Peninsula.
The approach on the steep “alpine” road is now suitable
for coaches and enables car parking on the valley floor for access
to the renovated village and the National Coastal Footpath of Wales
and the mile long beach.

In a land of stories and legends, overlooked by the Iron age Hill
Fort at Tre’r Ceiri, the story of the valley from the medieval
farms and the quarries of the Victorian industrial revolution to
the modern day role of Nant Gwrtheyrn in the recent revival of the
Welsh language and culture is told in new interpretive displays
in the village.
A complete £5m refurbishment of the listed cottages in 2009
provides 4* accommodation for up to 80 residential guests in en-suite
bedrooms or self catered cottages and the new 180 cover function
room offers catered events for a range of day and residential visitors.
Nant Gwrtheyrn is now a popular venue throughout the year for weddings,
parties, concerts and events as well as conferences and meetings
.
2010
sees major developments for day visitors with the opening of new
Heritage Displays in the old chapel and a “period house”
which offers an insight into life in the quarry village in 1900
and work in the quarries when 2000 men were employed to quarry road
stone setts, which were then exported by sea to build the cobbled
streets of Manchester and Liverpool .
The new cafe-bar opened in August 2009 offers a range of meals
and snacks and a shop selling Welsh crafts and books.
Admission to the village and heritage displays is free, with free
parking for access also to the coastal path and beach.
Nant Gwrtheyrn has been re-developed by a charity and is primarily
a centre for teaching Welsh to Adults. The Heritage displays also
illustrate the rejuvenation of the Welsh language and culture in
recent years .Welsh taster sessions are offered subject to demand
as well as a range of Welsh for Adults courses throughout the year
.
Be
sure to visit Nant Gwrtheyrn on your visit to North Wales, a warm
welcome awaits you at this stunning location where you are free
to wander under the watchful gaze of choughs, peregrine falcons
and wild goats and sometimes in the company of the seals and dolphins.
