Inigo
Jones Slateworks is a very special place, possibly the last surviving
example of a fully operational Slateworks in North Wales.
Established in 1861 the workshop is a thriving local business,
supplying slate products all over the world.
See craftsmen using age old skills and working machinery Watch
as they cut, shape and polish slate slabs into products such as
cills, coping, flooring, steps, kitchen worktops, hearths and various
craft items.
You can also watch as nameplates, plaques and memorials are either
hand or machine engraved or shot blasted.
We have a superb Slate craft showroom where you can see a wide
range of high quality slateware produced by ourselves, as well as
other welsh craft products such as pottery, glassware and prints.
Welsh Slate nameplates and plaques can be engraved to order. Inigo
Jones now has a new online shopping web site for all its products.
These products can be ordered on line and posted anywhere in the
world. For further information or to order go to www.inigojones.co.uk.
Slate Showroom
The slate showroom is designed to show slate products in a modern setting and this is done by using natural wooden flooring in conjunction with natural slate flooring.
Lighting is well used to highlight slate and other welsh craft products on display.
Welsh Rock Café
An old workshop has been converted to a new 70 seater café. This is a themed café giving the history of welsh music from its early beginnings to modern day.
There is a new outside picnic area to sit and relax and enjoy a drink and a snack when the weather is nice
Improved Self Guided Tour
The self guided tour incorporates a video presentation followed by an audio commentary around the workshops by you own personal walkman.
There is a geological, historical, calligraphy and letter cutting exhibitions and there is a chance to have a go at calligraphy and to engrave on a piece of welsh slate that you get to keep as a souvenir. There is also a childrens quiz with a slate prize.
Outside
the showroom there is a display of landscape products such as sundials,
bird baths, chippings, rockery stone and water features.
