The Snowdonia Seven
First Hydro supports North Wales Police in meeting a different
type of challenge.
On Saturday the 18th of August the annual Snowdonia Seven event
will take place in Llanberis. This prestigious event has been running
since 1974 and attracts police officers from all across the UK to
take on a course of 21 miles over the beautiful Snowdonia national
park; visiting seven of the major peaks en route.
In the past this has been a low key affair and it is likely that
many within the community didn’t even know about it (previously
it started at Rhyd Ddu and finished at Nant Peris). However, now
with sponsorship from FHC the event has been brought right into
the heart of the community with the start and finish in Llanberis
(indeed this year the souvenir mugs given to competitors were designed
by pupils at Ysgol Cwm y Glo).
The day promises to be a tough test for all those taking part,
but also offers the opportunity for the community to meet police
officers in a quite different setting. The finish will be at the
Llanberis community centre and will be open for visitors to come
along to watch the action and offer their support, or just look
around the community centre where there will be plenty of information
about the course, the history of the event, the competitors and
the event’s sponsors.
In addition FHC welcome any spectators to the Electric Mountain
visitor centre (situated right next to the community centre), where
there are refreshments available all through the day.
In the last few years North Wales Police have done well with ‘home
advantage’; winning the event in 2004 and being narrowly beaten
into second place in 2005. This year promises to be another tremendous
competition, with the victorious team expected to run (hobble) into
the community centre at around 1pm. Anyone who would like to come
along and experience the excitement of the finish is more than welcome,
more information about the event can be found on the website at
